Plan a Visit to Marshall "Major" Taylor's Grave site on your way to the National Meet
Less than 5 minutes from the Halsted St exit on Route 294/80 rests the grave site for one of the most significant figures in cycling history Marshall W "Major" Taylor. Marshall spent his final years in Chicago, passing in 1932 his final resting place is at the Mount Glenwood (South) Cemetery in Glenwood Illinois.
- Exit Route 80/294 on to Halsted Street
- North on Halsted Street (2blks) to 2nd light 167th Street
- Turn right (east) on 167th Street for 0.9 miles, street name turns into Armory
- At "T" intersection turn right (south) on to State Street
- Proceed on State Street for 2.1 miles (obey speed limits) street name turns into Williams, past quarry
- The cemetery is on the left, turn into second entrance proceed straight on main road 0.1 mile to Section D sign.
- Off to your right will be a stone walkway and wall. Walk towards stone wall at end of the walkway is Major Taylor's grave.
