Century route for the Wheelmen Benevolent Operative Thursday, July 10th, 2003.
We will offer two Century routes:
- One for Children (accompanied by parents or guardian) and Senior citizens.
- Second route will for all other able bodied individuals between to old and not old enough.
Both routes are primarily on bicycles trails, sans automobiles. However, there are intersections varying from lightly traveled to push walk-button and wait till stream of cars stop before crossing. Please use caution at all times whilst riding, we need each of you to complete the route safely. Due to riding on trails sagging access is limited. Lack of motored vehicles whilst riding will make up any inconveniences.
- Please check that your bicycle is good sound safe riding condition before pedaling a 100 miles on it.
- Be prepared to carry with you:
- Beverage of some type
- Snacks
- Tools (at least a small wrench)
- Cell phone if you have one.
The trails vary from paved, to well groomed limestone. The series of trails we will be using are some of the most popular in the Chicago area, due to there scenic stretches along the Fox River, miles of tree covered riding and prairie flat terrain, punctuated with very few grades (hills to some, bumps to others, snow will not be found on any of the peaks, in fact I don't think you'll find any peaks). This is Illinois! Marbles have a hard time deciding which way to roll in the street.
The main Century route will connect and parallel some of the original Century Road Club of Chicago/America route.
