Here are some neat things to do while family members are riding the Century or on the acclimatization days after the acclimatization rides.
Reservations have been made for a few tours:
- Tour of US Geological Survey's Earthquake Center adjacent to CSM campus in Golden. Capacity of each tour day is 25 to 30. We have reserved Monday 2:00 PM - 2:45 PM and again Wednesday 2:00 PM - 2:45 PM
- Tour of Yeti Bicycle Factory in South Golden: Tuesday 3:30 PM - 4:15 PM
Other areas they might want to visit which require no reservation:
- Golden Pioneer Museum on 10th Street in Golden 2 blocks from start of Century (on course)
- American Mountaineering Center and Colorado Mountain Club Headquarters....3 blocks from start of Century on 10th street (on course)
- Buffalo Bill Grave and Museum ...atop Lookout Mountain Drive West on 19th Street and after a climb of 1600 ft (4 miles by road, 1 mile by crow flight) it is on the right. Also for more history on Buffalo Bill... http://www.buffalobill.org/history.htm
- Red Rocks Park and Amphitheater...on the road to Morrison 4 miles south of Golden /// famous for outdoor concerts in a natural setting.
- Dinosaur Tracks Park and Museum...1/2 mile east of Red Rocks on the road crossing the Hog Back fault line.
- Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum...In Downtown Golden on Washington Street.
- Clear Creek History Park...in Golden by the river..and across from the start of the Century Ride...3 blocks from campus.
- The Astor House Museum... Where the Ladies Victorian Tea will be held. It is a 1860s boarding hotel for the members of the Colorado Legislature when Golden was the Colorado Capitol.
- Clear Creek White Water Park...Start of the Century...it was the site of the 1999 U S National White Water Canoe and Kayak Championships.
- The Colorado Rail Road Museum...The OHWT and the Century rides will pass it ...but not stop in.
